Compare Plug-in Hybrid Luxury Crossovers in Red Bank, NJ

The Volvo XC60 is an exemplary compact luxury SUV with refined accommodations, sophisticated style, and ample practicality. It's one of the most compelling models in the segment, especially in its potent plug-in hybrid configuration. The Volvo XC60 Recharge delivers a first-class driving experience with exhilarating prolusion and impressive pure-electric capability. Here's a quick look at how it compares in a few key areas to two other luxury PHEV competitors, the Audi Q5 55 TFSI e and Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring.

2024 Volvo XC60 Recharge vs. Audi Q5 55

Performance: Besides being easier to say, the Volvo XC60 Recharge offers more driving excitement than the Audi Q5 55 TFSI e. It combines a turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric powertrain to deliver 455 horsepower and 523 pound-feet of torque. The Audi Q5 55 TFSI e is no slouch in the performance department; however, its 2.0-liter turbo-four plug-in hybrid powertrain (362 hp, 369 lb-ft) can't keep up with the twincharged XC60 Recharge.

Electric Range: In addition to its strong fuel economy, a plug-in hybrid is a great way to enjoy emissions-free Eatontown commutes without relying on 100% battery power. The Volvo XC60 Recharge achieves an EPA-estimated 63 MPGe (miles-per-gallon equivalent), while the Audi Q5 TFSI e is close behind with a 60 MPGe EPA-estimated rating. However, the XC60 Recharge provides a better EV-esque experience with an EPA-estimated 35 miles of pure-electric range compared to 23 miles in the Audi Q5 55 TFSI e.

Interior and Practicality: The Volvo XC60 and Audi Q5 have evenly matched passenger volumes, providing ample headroom and legroom for passengers in either row. However, the XC60 offers more utility with up to 63.3 cubic feet of cargo capacity. The regular Audi Q5 has a maximum capacity of 54.1 cubic feet. However, that number drops to 53.5 in the Q5 55 TFSI e due to its panoramic sunroof – a feature that comes standard in the XC60.

2024 Volvo XC60 Recharge vs. Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring

Performance: The Volvo XC60 Recharge uses a twincharged four-cylinder engine and a plug-in electric powertrain to produce prodigious propulsion, churning out an all-wheel-driving 455 horsepower. The Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring uses an Atkinson-cycle 2.5-liter four-cylinder, which provides strong efficiency ratings but much less thrust (266 horsepower).

Electric Range: The Volvo XC60 Recharge was recently upgraded to an 18.8-kWh battery, improving its pure-electric capability to an EPA-estimated 35 miles. The Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring (EPA-est. 27 miles) performs a little better in this area than the Audi Q5 55 TFSI e (EPA-est. 23 miles), but it can't match the XC60 Recharge.

Charging Time: One benefit of PHEVs is the ability to experience EV driving without necessarily needing special charging equipment. The XC60 Recharge and Corsair Grand Touring can replenish their batteries overnight using a standard household-style outlet (120v). The XC60 is a little quicker, though, completing a full charge in as little as ~8 hours compared to the Corsair's ~10.5.

Practicality: The Volvo XC60 offers 63 cubic feet of max storage. It also comes standard with roof rails to carry items that won't fit inside. For the largest cargo, the XC60 Recharge can tow up to 3,500 pounds. The Lincoln Corsair has a maximum storage capacity of 56.2 cubic feet, while its standard max tow rating is 2,000 pounds. The Corsair can tow up to 3,000 pounds, but it requires an optional package.
